How to Look for Painting Contractors

05/30/2019

Have you looked at your walls and sensed something wrong but you just can’t put your finger on it? Have you felt the flaking, uneven surface and noticed paint blisters from pillar to post? Well chances are, these walls need touch-ups or repainting.

Painting is a hard task to do especially if you decide to DIY. First, you need to buy paint on your own, get some rollers and brushes, mix colors, and layout rosin paper to protect your floor. All of that work, and we haven’t even started on the actual painting itself!

Instead of stressing out, it’s best to leave this to the experts. But how do you choose the right painting contractor? Here are our tips!

Make a List

You need to know the details. Jot down your observations (ex: flaking, faded paint, etc). Know the colors you’re interested to use. What kind of Pantone do you want? This becomes your job description for the painting contractors you will encounter.

Experience

When looking for a painting contractor, consider how long they’ve been in the industry. Their experience would be invaluable in handling your paint job. Experience has taught them how to handle many kinds of painting scenarios. They know what to do.

Get Licensed Contractors

Hire licensed and insured contractors. Insurance is important because it protects you and the contractor from damages and accidents. By law, they require all home improvement contractors to have licenses. If they don’t, they may not have the expertise to do the job for you.

Budget

Remember the list we made earlier? Once you’ve sat down and shared your list with them, painting contractors will give you a cost estimate. Be sure they show you what the estimate includes.

Canvass

Contact other painting contractors. Tell them the same thing about your list. This gives you a detailed comparison of estimates. You then can weigh the pros and cons of each. The more choices, the better.

These are just some things you could do to find the right painting contractor for you. Is our list helpful? Do you have other tricks you know? Let us know and share your thoughts below!
